Design team appointed for the Ligingi Community Learning Centre, Uganda

We're delighted to report that a pro bono design team has been appointed for the LCLC project in Uganda!

The team is made up of Australian architects Charity Edwards, Leila Allbrook and Jessica Black (who collectively go by the name Some Kind of Studio: an emerging Melbourne-based design studio) along with Charles Newman, an American architectural designer, currently based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Charles is working in Bukavu, in eastern DRC as a reconstruction manager for the International Rescue Committee, while Charity, Leila and Jessica all hold down day jobs at an architecture office in Melbourne. Geographic differences aside, all four have already been busily exploring architecture's potential to improve lives, in various ways, and bring a combined passion for community-driven design to the project.

An international team is a first for the Architects for Peace pro bono service, but it seems very much in the spirit of the LCLC and its co-founders Anna and Dennis - who have powerful ties to both Melbourne and Ligingi and seem to move effortlessly between these worlds. We wish the team well and look forward to bringing you progress updates soon! You can also keep in touch with the great stuff that the LCLC is up to at their website http://www.ligingi.com/
